The Healthy Back Programme

A Comprehensive Back Pain Management Programme from the Light Centre

as recommended by the National Institute for Health and Clinic Excellence (NICE)

New national guidelines suggest that a comprehensive package of physical therapy, education and exercise is the most effective treatment approach available for back pain .

The NICE guidelines now advise doctors and physicians not to prescribe medications, rest, injections, operations and/or other invasive treatments, but to instead refer patients to a programme such as this one.

We know from evolutionary research that the human body was not designed for modern lifestyles. Back pain is often the first sign that a body is under intense pressure from compensations due to desks, cars, sofas, computers and repetitive actions (including sports and computer games).

Only by building a map of these pressures and gradually reducing their effects on the body can a recurring back problem be properly fixed.

Short-term approaches such as using pain killers, massage, ultrasound, orthotics, bed rest etc only serve to appease the symptoms and not deal with the problem itself. Furthermore, invasive treatments such as injections and surgery not only ignore the cause but may also leave the body in a weakened state.

The Light Centre’s Healthy Back Programme starts with a thorough assessment of your body’s biomechanics to work out where stresses have accumulated and why you thus have back pain. We then use appropriate corrective techniques to remove any major barriers to healing, before putting together a personal rehabilitation programme that will get you back to good health.

Additional to this physical approach we also look at your diet and nutritional levels, plus any mental stresses that may be adding to the picture.

To start a Healthy Back Programme simply make an appointment for your first consultation (£60 for a 1-hour assessment) and we’ll take you through the rest.

To set up an appointment send an email to our Healthy back programme leader, Mark Thompson D.O., N.D. (mark@lightcentre.com) giving your name and a brief outline of the back problems you are having.
